Studying Our Environment – from local to global and back

Learning about the environment at RG spans from international projects down to the grassroots level.  We are sending two classes to participate in COP21 in Paris and include projects about world climate change in our Geography classes. At our school, we have built a green roof as part of an extension of our Geography classrooms.

The roof includes a weather station with up-to-date temperature and precipitation data, which is tracked on our website every 10 minutes.  The green roof absorbs rain and enables our students to measure rain runoff and study the effectiveness of this type of roof.  It also brings a concrete understanding to our studies of the Copenhagen Climate Adaptation Plan and urban heat islands.
